When in Iceland you need to visit the small and beautiful town of Vík, a remote seafront village in south Iceland. The village sits in the shadow of Mýrdalsjökull glacier, which covers the most infamous volcano in the country, Katla volcano. Overlooking the town is Reyniskirkja, a wooden church dating to 1929 that features in many photos from the area. Reynisfjara beach has black pebbles, basalt columns, and the Reynisdrangar offshore rock formations. The cliffs of Reynisfjall mountain are home to seabirds such as puffins. Just west, the Dyrhólaey peninsula has a large rock arch which is every photographer’s dream to film. Close to Vik is Solheimajokull glacier and some of the most significant lava fields in Iceland, covered in green moss.
