Not your typical photo tour

Off To Iceland is not your typical car rental service. We're all about offering our customers an adventure. This time, we're embarking on a thrilling photo tour through the highlands of Iceland from August 26th to 30th, 2024. Along the way, we'll also discover the golden spots on Iceland's south coast before returning to Reykjavik, our hearts filled with memories of the highlands.

Please note: Only eight spots are available in four 4x4 trucks and this is a guided, self drive tour.

Tour leader:

Off To Iceland's founder, Bjorn Steinbekk, a seasoned drone pilot and content creator, will be the guide. Steinbekk's expertise and passion for Iceland make him the perfect person to lead this five-day adventure in the highlands.

We will visit the most iconic spots in the highlands, but that does not mean they are crowded with people. We will also go off the beaten track and visit areas the locals know only.

The itinerary is as follows:

Day 1:

  • 08:00, we head from the Europcar office in Keflavik, Iceland. Europcar Iceland is an Off To Iceland partner and owns all the cars we rent out.
  • We make our way up to Háifoss waterfall, take in the scenery, and have lunch prepared by our fantastic chef.
  • From there, we head into the highlands to Sigöldugljúfur, a must-see canyon sometimes called the Valley of Tears.
  • From there, we travel to Hnausapollur and Ljóti Pollur, two ancient volcano craters that are lakes today.
  • After those spots, we head to Landmannalaugar camping ground, where our chef has started preparing dinner.
  • After dinner and stories, you can relax in the natural hot spring close by, before going to sleep.

 Day 2:

  • We wake up before sunrise, have breakfast, and then hike to Brennisteinsalda Mountain, sometimes called the rainbow mountain, to capture the scenery of Iceland's most colorful landscape.
  • We head back to Landmannalaugar for lunch, back up the content, and, if we have enough time, edit it.
  • When the memory cards have been backed up, we hike to Grænagil Canyon, a gorgeous spot that will leave you in awe. We do photo sessions from the steep ridges and work on compositions.
  • When the sun is almost down, we head back to the camp in Landmannalaugar, have a super good dinner, and then share stories and talk about what the day meant to us and what we learned.

Day 3:

  • We leave Landmannalaugar early and drive towards Lake Langisjor, one of Iceland's most isolated and unique spots.
  • This is the day you want to stop at every hill to capture the breathtaking landscapes of the highlands. We will, but the main objective of the day is Sveinstindur Mountain, a mountain peak with unparalleled views and sunsets that are simply out of this world.
  • The hike is steep, especially with cameras, drones, and tripods, so you need to be in shape for this photo tour.
  • When the sun sets, we head down, and dinner awaits at camp.

Day 4:

  • We leave Langisjor Lake and head towards Ófærufoss waterfall in Eldgjá Canyon.
  • One of Iceland's most significant volcanic eruptions occurred on this spectacular site in 936, and it's estimated that no other eruption on earth has released the same quantity of lava as the eruption in Eldgjá.
  • After Ófærufoss and Eldgjá, we head to Mælifell mountain, sometimes called the green giant by the locals and one of Iceland's most photographed mountains.
  • Raudbotn and Hólmsárlón will be our sunset location, a unique spot where the colors pop out as the creator went overboard with the Saturation feature.
  • After we head down from the highlands to the town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur and have a late dinner at the local campsite.

Day 5:

  • After breakfast, we head to Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon, the first stop on our final day. A magestic canyon that bares one of the hardest names to pronounce in Icelandic.
  • From there, we head to the town of Vik, where we check out the black beach and the cliffs and enjoy lunch.
  • The next stops are Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss before we head towards Keflavik to return the cars, by 5 PM.
  •  Goodbye dinner will be at a restaurant in Keflavík along with one final editing session.
